Weyin’ played major role in the struggle for freedom, democracy: PM Meles

Addis Ababa, January 6 (WIC) – Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said that Weyin Newspaper has not only played a significant role in the struggle made to ensure freedom but also it has been exerting efforts to promote sustainable development, democracy and good governance.
Speaking in connection with the 35th founding anniversary of the Newspaper to be marked next month, PM Meles urged Woyin to further scale up its efforts of ensuring sustainable development and building democracy.
According to the premier, Woyin Newspaper has played the forefront role in the struggle made for freedom and democracy, adding that the role it played in realizing sustainable development and enhancing good governance is remarkable.
Despite the significant improvements the newspaper has made, it needs to evaluate its long experience and scale up its efforts in accordance to the socio-economic development, Meles added.
Woyin’s has also served as a means of struggle, a forum and a source of information of all sorts to the public, PM Meeles said, adding that the Newspaper was launched and highly promote the language and culture of the Tigrian’s at the time when many thought that it was impossible to write with the Tigrigna language.
The Prime Minister also added that Weyin has played an important role in creating close ties between the public and TPLF.
